Salford City: Not available Warrington Town entertained their near neighbours Salford City, looking to carry on with their unbeaten run in 2012, as well as looking to complete a league double against this opposition, having won 5-1 at Moor Lane on the opening day of the season. The wires welcomed back popular goalkeeper Paul Pritchard, in place of the injured Chris Oldfield, and gave a start to Chris Thompson up front and introduced youngster Rob Winrow and the experienced to Dave Ness to the substitutes bench. As with the previous encounter between the sides, it was Salford who started the brighter of the two clubs, with ex Warrington striker Gavin Salmon going close in the 6th minute, when he beat the on rushing Pritchard to a throughball, only to see his lobbed effort headed off the line by Town centre back River Humphreys. The home side appeared to suffer a set back in the 13th minute, when livewire winger Allan Collins was forced to leave the field with what appeared to be a hamstring injury, to be replaced by Dale Wright. After this set back, Warrington began to get into the game, with full back Mike Duffy shooting weakly at Salford goalkeeper Danny Jackson, after one of his trademark surging runs from full back. Town went close to scoring in a very strange manner soon after, Jacksons poor clearance was returned from former Salford full back Matt Cross, who was inside his own half, his lobbed effort evading Jackson, but was cleared from his own line by midfielder James Ogoo. Barely a minute later, Town suffered another set back, with Chris Thompson being forced to leave the field with injury, to be replaced by Rob Hardwick. The game burst into life four goals in ten minutes at the end of the first half left, firstly Town took the lead in the 34th minute, with Wright seeing his diving header hit the upright, and rolling along the goalline before finally going into the net, despite the best efforts of Salford defender Alex Mortimer. After scoring his first goal of the season, Town fans didn't have long to wait for his second goal, as six minutes later, he was on hand to nod home from close range following Lee Madin's pull back from Cross' free kick. The visitors found a way back into the game three minutes later, when Salmon capitalised on hesitancy in the Town rearguard, to nod past Pritchard and slot home into the open goal. Less than sixty seconds later Salford were level, when after a quick break, midfielder Adam Morning unleashed a powerful drive across Pritchard and into the far corner to leave the home side stunned. The second half began with both sides looking to go forward to try and take the lead, Pritchard twice being in the right place to deny Salmon at close range early on. A pair of subtitutes forced on the visitors early in the half gave Town a boost and as the half wore on, Town looked to take control of the game, with former Manchester United youngster Nick Jackson seeing his shot deflected wide of the upright, before Madin's cross was cleared behind for a corner. Town took the lead once again, in the 75th minute when Rob Hardwick got on the end of a long clearance out of defence, to tee up Nick Jackson who coolly beat his namesake Danny Jackson and find the bottom corner of the net for his first goal for the club. Warrington secured the three points with five minutes left, when Madin collected midfielder Kyle Hamid's excellent pass, with his back to goal, and was given space by the tiring reqarguard, to turn and beat Jackson into the bottom corner from 12 yards. There was still time to introduce Winrow from the bench for his league debut. | ||||||
