Warrington Town surrendered their eleven game unbeaten streak, disappointingly going down 2-0 at high flying Curzon Ashton.

The wires welcomed back midfielders Kyle Hamid, Dale Wright and the recently re-signed Mike Tomlinson, signed in place of the suddenly departed Tom Hardwick, back into the starting line up from the frustating 2-2 midweek draw at lowly Wakefield.

The game started with neither side in control of the game, each testing out the other early on, striker Chris Thompson shooting over early on, before Curzon winger Lee Blackshaw shot weakly at Paul Pritchard in the visiting goal.

Curzon Ashton should have taken the lead in the 10th minute, when prolific former Town striker Chris McDonagh somehow shot over from close range when unmarked. Town went close to scoring soon after, Allan Collins narrowly failing to connect with a long Pritchard clearance before Owen Roberts saw a free kick go narrowly the wrong side of the upright.

Once again both sides went close soon after, Curzon saw striker Kristian Dennis cut in from the right only to shoot straight at Pritchard, before Collins saw his cross deflected narrowly wide by Curzon defender Connor Hampson. After all these chances went begging, defence took over with Tomlinson magnificently marshalling the Town rearguard, with chances being at a premium before the half time whistle, the closest either side came was when River Humphreys was forced to head behind a dangerous cross from Blackshaw.

On the stroke of half time, Matt Cross went close, seeing his shot deflected for a corner by the Curzon rearguard.

The second half began as the first half ended, with defences on top, Town's biggest threat being the jinking runs of Town winger Liam Shipton and indeed, it was his cross which was narrowly missed by the on-rushing Thompson at the far post.

Ten minutes into the second half the home side took the lead, Dennis taking advantage of hesitancy in the Town rearguard to play in McDonagh, whose cross was finished by midfielder Sam Walker, despite the best efforts of Pritchard, who narrowly failed to keep the ball out of the net.

Just three minutes later, Curzon should have gone further ahead, winger Lewis Nightingale, once again taking advantage of hesitancy in the Town rearguard, before shooting into the side netting from close range. The home side were in control of the game, and Walker shot over soon after. With just over a quarter of an hour to go, Curzon sealed the game, once again capitalising on hesitancy in the home defence, culminating in River Humphreys deflecting home Blackshaw's powerful cross.

After this setback, Town tried to go forward, in search of a way back into the game. Despite going forward, Town were restricted to long shots by the home defence, with Owen Roberts and Kyle Hamid shooting over the bar from distance. Town came closest to scoring with just three minutes to go, Thompson seeing his throughball to midfielder Dale Wright go just too far, meaning the midfielder could not trouble Joshua Ollerenshaw in the Curzon goal.
