Warrington Town completed their home programme of fixtures for the season, suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat against champions elect AFC Fylde, who featured former Wire midfielder Jimmy McCarthy in their starting line up. Manager Shaun Reid introducing Stephen O'Brien to the starting line up of the suspended Kyle Hamid, with striker Rob Hardwick moving back to centre half in place of Michael Jackson, and midfielder Gerard Kinsella playing up front alongside Chris Thompson. In a game that started scrappy, it took either side over 15 minutes to create a meaningful opportunity, with Fylde striker Paul Jarvis chipping wide when well placed. The home side suffered a blow after 19 minutes, when Rob Hardwick was forced from the field, to be replaced by seventeen year old youth team regular, Tom Everson, who was making his full debut for the club. Fylde twice went close to opening the scoring soon after, firstly winger Ritchie Allen saw his shot go over the crossbar before the same player forced Town keeper Paul Pritchard into a fine save. The following corner being headed off the line by Town captain Mike Tomlinson. Following the let off, Warrington got more into the game, with O'Brien shooting narrowly wide, before Thompson headed straight at Zac Jones in the Fylde goal. Ten minutes before half time, Fylde went the closest of either side to open the scoring, failing to finish after Pritchard blocked Jarvis' initial shot, with Nick Jackson being in the right place to clear off the line. The final chance of the half fell to Fylde midfielder Bradley Barnes who shot over from McCarthy's pull back, when well placed. The second half began with the visitors in charge of proceedings, Barnes shooting over when well placed once again. The hosts went close soon after through Liam Shipton who dragged his shot wide after a mazy run at the heart of the Fylde defence. Fylde took the lead just before the hour, Allen being played through, and finishing crisply beyond Pritchard and into the bottom corner. Six minutes later the same player was at it again, only this time, the Welsh custodian was equal to the task, and denied Fylde a second goal. After going a goal down, Town went in search of an equaliser, with Dale Wright shooting wide, before Allen sliced over when well placed for the visitors. Town came closest to an equaliser with 18 minutes to go, Kinsella seeing his shot from Thompson's pull back smack away off the crossbar with Jones beaten. As the game wore on, Town continued to press forward looking for an equalising goal, but could not find a way past the well marshalled visiting defence. The visitors looked contented to play in the break, and the closest either sode came to a goal was in injury time, when the ball fell to Tomlinson in the penalty area but he could only shoot weakly at Jones, as the visitors gained a valuable three points in their promotion push, which took them closer to their goal of automatic promotion | ||||||
