WARRINGTON Town crashed to a 3-1 defeat at Workington which further diminishes any hopes of reaching the play-offs.

All four goals came in the second half up in Cumbria, with Dylan Vassallo scoring what was simply a consolation goal for Paul Carden’s men at the death.

New signing Connor McCarthy started up front, while assistant manager Craig Robinson also came in to the starting line-up in place of John Shaw.

After a goalless first half, Workington took the lead on 53 minutes from the penalty spot, Dave Synington driving down the middle after Scott Allison had been brought down in the box.

Striker Danny Hattersley made a welcome return from injury shortly after the hour mark, replacing Ruben Jerome, but his introduction failed to spark a Warrington comeback.

Workington doubled their lead on 67 minutes through Conor Tinnion, and he made the game safe nine minutes from time with a wonderful free-kick.

Vassallo continued to show his growing potential with a back-post header in the 89th minute, but it was yet another disappointing afternoon for the Yellows.
