Harrogate captain Paul Stansfield stepped up to fire home beyond the dive of keeper Ben Connett after Mike Grogan gave away the penalty. Town looked to get back into the game and striker Tony Evans had Town’s first chance, shooting straight at Harrogate keeper James Mann. Town fell further behind in the 8th minute, when striker Aaron Hollindrake was allowed time and space to head home unchallenged from 10 yards. Town began to get into the game, and went close soon after through Evans, who forced Mann to save with his feet, and through top scorer Chris Gahgan, who just failed to connect with Richie Chetcuti’s cross. Town were in their best spell of the game, and pulled a goal back before the half hour mark, when Gahgan slid in to score his 29th goal of the season from Gavin Salmon’s low cross. The heavy pitch began to take its toll on the game, and chances became at a premium with both sides defending resolutely and restricting the goalbound efforts. The second half began slightly more openly, with both sides looking for an opportunity, Evans forcing a save from Mann when well placed, and Stansfield shooting over for the hosts. Town went close to equalising, when Gavin Salmon’s flick on from Danny Toone’s free kick, was gathered by Mann under pressure from the on rushing Town players. Warrington continued to look for an equaliser, but even a goalmouth scramble came to nought, as Town could not find that little bit of quality that was needed to defeat the resolute home team’s defending. Town’s best chance for an equaliser fell to Evans, who put Gahgan’s pull back too close to Mann when he had the goal at his mercy. The home side had the chance to kill the game off, but winger Scott Driscoll failed to connect with Stansfield’s cross when he had an open goal at his mercy. The final chance of the game, saw Town striker Gavin Salmon redirect substitute Sam Finley’s shot narrowly wide of the upright. | ||||||
