Wakefield: Not available WARRINGTON Town secured their first home win since early November coming from a goal behind to beat Wakefield 2-1 at Cantilever Park. In a dour first half the visitors created the majority of chances the first falling to Paul Dempsey in the 25th minute who saw his goal bound shot tipped around the post by keeper Ritchie Mottram. Wakefield’s towering forward Tom Denton broke the deadlock on 37 minutes when he headed home a Chris Howarth cross. A few minutes later Howarth could have made it two only to see his effort cleared off the line by Town’s Michael Stewart. At the start of the second half Stewart again cleared off the line and from that moment Warrington took control following the introduction of substitute Francis Smith. With almost his first touch of the ball Smith crossed for striker Richard Chetcuti to chest down and fire the ball home on 62 minutes to level the scores. Town started to dominate the game and took a deserved lead on 73 minutes following a sweeping move which saw centre forward Jimmy McCarthy head home from close range. Substitute Thomas Lamb had a chance of wrapping up the points when he rifled in a shot which was well saved by Wakefield keeper Dale Crossland as Warrington hung on for a much needed home win. | ||||||
