JUST four days after their disappointing defeat at the hands of Colwyn Bay, Warrington travelled to Quorn more in hope than expectation as the home side were top of the league and had yet to concede a goal. But in blistering heat, they showed no respect to the opposition’s place in the league and came away with a superb 2-0 victory. Town made a good start and after just seven minutes captain Dougie Pitts made a good pass to Ged Courtney who executed a cheeky lob over the ‘keeprer to put Warrington in the lead. Six minutes later Andy Potter, playing his first senior start for Warrington, saw Quorn’s keeper stop his shot only for the ball to drop back his feet. With the’keeper still on the floor, Potter seized his chance with a second strike and put Town further ahead. Neither side made much progress for some time, although Warrington were playing the ball around the field with increasing confidence. Chances fell to Potter, Neil Smith, Robinson and Courtney. After 37 minutes, a Quorn attack ended when the ball went over the bar. Warrington conceded several corners but Quorn were unable to convert them into goals. The second half was mostly a midfield game with few runs at goal. Five minutes from the end, Warrington ‘keeper pulled off a good save to deny the home side again. In the closing stages, Warrington continued to press hard with Potter and Coyne shooting over the bar, Coyne heading wide and Hannon shooting wide. | ||||||
