Connor Woods’ second half free-kick was enough to earn Warrington Town their first win of the season at home to Peterborough Sports. Woods deceived Peter Crook with a curling right foot effort from just outside the corner of the box with 19 minutes to play to decide what had been a closely fought contest. The visitors started the brightest and could have led within two minutes, Dion Sembie-Ferris shot headed off the line by Evan Gumbs. Woods dragged an early shot wide for the Yellows, before his corner was headed goalwards by Peter Clarke, denied by the legs of Crook. In the second half, Woods again was at the heart of the Yellows’ attacking opportunities, his pull back for Bohan Dixon fired at the ‘keeper from close range. Dixon then put Woods in behind the full-back and he flashed a low cross right across the face of goal that was just beyond the Gez Sithole. Peterborough’s best chance saw Dan Jarvis’ cross headed against the top of the cross bar by Mark Jones, shortly before Woods stepped up to convert a free-kick after Sithole was fouled. The Yellows saw the game out to end a run of five successive home defeats. | ||||||
