WARRINGTON Town’s frustrations in front of goal continued as they were held to a goalless draw at home by Rushall Olympic.

The two best chances of the match fell to Paul Carden’s side, Reece Daly hitting the bar in the first half and then new signing Max Thompson missing a glorious chance after the break, blazing over the bar when through on goal.

Thompson could have been an instant hero after arriving on dual-registration from Chorley, but instead the Yellows had to settle for maintaining their unbeaten start at home in the league, albeit a draw does little to ease their early season worries.

Playing against a side also relegated from National League North last season in Rushall, who suffered their first defeat of the season at the weekend, it was an even contest.

A deflected shot had Liam Isherwood scrambling across his goal to watch the ball drop wide early doors, before Jay Harris’ volley from inside the box was deflected over the bar.

On 36 minutes, a Jack Doyle free-kick was cleared as far as Daly, who dug out a right foot shot that came back off the face of the crossbar.

Enock Lusiama was proving a handful though Rushall centre back Jordaan Brown had some telling interventions.

The best chance came on 59 minutes when a superb pass by Lusiama released Thompson, and he raced through on goal but fired his shot over the bar.

It was Isherwood that made the best save of the match, adjusting well to block a deflected shot with his leg having already dived the other way, and then clutching the rebound.

Lusiama did have the ball in the back of the net on 71 minutes, poaching on a loose ball after Thompson’s shot had fallen in the box, but he was flagged offside, and that was the closest either side would come to a winner.

The Yellows now have a Saturday off owing to their early FA Cup exit before next Tuesday’s trip to Prescot Cables.
